Several Reasons to Be Excited for 2022

The last couple years have been difficult for all of us, but we believe 2022 offers hope and new possibilities!

We are looking forward to new furniture collections and design trends that provide a sense of peace and warmth — something we all need nowadays. Here are a couple things that have us excited for 2022.

Bye, bye cool tones … hello to warmer colors.

Colors are often defined as either “warm” or “cool.” Examples of warm colors include reds and oranges, while cool colors include blues and greens. Over the last several years, cool-toned colors like grays and blues have dominated the furniture and interiors industry.

While we love that kind of color palette, we are so excited to see warmer colors exploding into the design world. Colors like terracotta, warm greens and yellows, taupe, and light beiges are all on the rise.

For all you gray lovers out there — don’t worry! Gray is staying on the design scene, but in warmer hues. A warm color palette can give your space a cozy, comforting aesthetic. If you’re interested in incorporating warmer colors in your home, visit us today and we’ll be happy to assist you!

Stickley’s new Martine Collection will offer a fresh line of modern cherry furniture.

One of the most exciting things we saw at Highpoint Furniture Market in 2021 was the new Martine collection from Stickley. This line of soft, elegant cherry furniture has something to offer for every room in your home.

Featuring subtle arches, curves, and glass and metal accents, the Martine collection beautifully bridges the gap between traditional and modern design styles. As always, the collection is crafted from solid wood right here in the USA, continuing Stickley’s legacy of craftsmanship. We simply cannot wait to have this collection on our showroom floor for all to see.

So are you as excited for 2022 as we are? We cannot wait for all this year has to offer. As always, we are here to assist you with all your home furnishing needs. Simply visit our Roanoke showroom or schedule an appointment with our Lynchburg Design Studio today!

Our 3 Favorite Gift Ideas for 2020

Our holiday plans might look different than usual this year, but we can still spread some holiday cheer by exchanging gifts with our loved ones.

We know that finding the right gifts can be stressful for many, so for this month’s blog, we have compiled a list of our top three favorite holiday gifts for 2020.

Small Accessories

Who doesn’t love a new accent piece for their mantle or coffee table? Accessories are great gifts that are both affordable and personal. Plus, they can usually be shipped easily if you are not able to be with your loved one for the holiday. Our Roanoke showroom has a wide variety of small accessories that can fit all types of styles and personalities, including vases, small sculptures, decorative bowls and trays, and much more.

Stickley Little Treasures

For the person in your life who loves the craftsmanship and beauty of solid wood furniture, the Little Treasures collection from Stickley has several excellent gift options. This collection features small, mission-style pieces ranging from bookshelves to accent tables. The gift of a Little Treasures piece is something that your loved one will pass down to future generations as a prized heirloom. Plus, these pieces are priced modestly in contrast with the rest of Stickley’s line, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank.

Cozy Throw Blankets

The holidays are the best time of year for curling up in your favorite blanket with a warm cup of cocoa. Throw blankets are excellent gifts, as they are both practical and decorative. Our Roanoke showroom has a hand-selected assortment of beautiful throw blankets to go with any room or color scheme. Woven with the softest, coziest materials, you might have a hard time not buying one for yourself too!

We hope this list is helpful as you shop for your family and friends this holiday season. And don’t forget to support small businesses if you are able — we encourage our customers and community to shop at local boutiques, bakeries, and other locally owned stores more than ever this year. We are so grateful for the support of our customers throughout 2020, and we are hopeful that 2021 will be merry and bright!

High Point Furniture Market Highlights (Fall 2020)

As we all know, 2020 has impacted every facet of life this year, and the furniture business was no exception.

Typically, we attend Furniture Market in High Point, NC in the spring and fall to shop for new merchandise for our ever-changing showroom. But after the Furniture Market in April was cancelled, we anxiously anticipated the fall. Luckily, we were able to attend Fall Market this October — although it was definitely a different experience than usual! Now that we are back from our trip, we are excited to share a few highlights with you.

Stickley shows off its modern side.

The Stickley showroom was our first stop, and we were so excited to see some modern pieces added to their already-impressive repertoire. The new Portfolio 120 collection is a fresh interpretation of mid-century modern style like we’ve never seen from Stickley before. Coupled with Stickley’s excellent solid wood construction, we think Portfolio 120 will be a beautiful choice for people who are seeking a contemporary look that will stand the test of time.

Stickley also introduced their new St. Lawrence collection, which features turned wood elements and a transitional style. Transitional pieces are extremely versatile because they can fit with traditional or contemporary settings depending on the other elements in your space.

Long story short: Stickley may be famous for their traditional mission style furniture, but they have something for EVERYONE — no matter what style you are looking for.

CR Laine’s colors and comfort never disappoint!

Another highlight of our trip was CR Laine’s beautiful showroom. We always love to see their exciting fabrics — and, of course, getting to test all the comfy upholstery is a dream! The hottest colors this fall included golden yellows, forest greens, cranberry reds, and rich shades of blue. There were also some lovely new leathers in great colors that we think will be a hit with our customers. We tested several swivel chairs and recliners that were both comfortable and stylish – several of which will make it to our Roanoke showroom soon.

Lamps, lamp, and more lamps!

High Point Furniture Market isn’t just about the furniture. We also shop for tons of accessories, art pieces, and lamps. We had a lot of fun restocking our lighting at the East Enterprises Inc. showroom. This company specializes in Asian styled ceramic lighting. Their blue and white lamps are always big sellers, so we stocked up on several of those. We also selected a variety of other colors and styles of both table lamps and floor lamps that will be a beautiful addition to our showroom. We were particularly excited about the large variety of color options that East Enterprises offers for select lighting pieces. We will now have a sample board of these color options in our showroom so our customers can see all the possibilities in person.

And finally, a big thank you…

Lastly, we would like to thank High Point Furniture Market and our amazing furniture manufacturers for all they did to make this event safe. We appreciate all that they do. We also thank YOU, our faithful customers, for supporting our family business during this difficult year. We look forward to brighter days ahead!

Choosing to Be Charitable

Being an active part of the community is an important part of Reid’s Fine Furnishings’ philosophy as a business.

We take pleasure in giving back and consider it an honor to be able to help others.

An example of this spirit of philanthropy can be seen in our involvement with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and Research Institute in Roanoke. We recently provided a “Stressless seating” area to the school, donating two Stressless sofas for students to relax in during their downtime.

“The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine does great things for our community,” said Reid’s owner Bill Waide. “We need to support it and this was one way to show that — by providing a comfortable space for these hard-at-work students to study or relax.”

Owner Andrea Reid Waide echoed those sentiments, saying, “It is important to us at Reid’s to give back to the local community.”

The partnership with VTCSOM began after Reid’s sponsored an event for the institution at Rockledge, a local event venue. The Waides also have a relationship with Lynne Pearo, VTCSOM director of alumni relations and special events.

The donation is just one of the ways Reid’s has given back to the community. They donated furniture for The Grandin Theatre to use in its foyer as part of its renovation project. Reid’s has also hosted fundraisers for and made donations to the Jefferson Center.

Each holiday season, Reid’s Fine Furnishings hosts the Charity of Choice sale event. For a $50 donation, customers receive $400 off their purchase of select Ekornes Stressless recliners or $200 off their purchase of other Stressless furnishings.

Last year, Reid’s expanded their philanthropic effort to impact charities in both Roanoke and Forest, where its stores are located. Donations made in Roanoke went to the Bradley Free Clinic, while those made in Forest benefited Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest

High Point Market Highlights (2018)

The Reid’s Fine Furnishings team made the trip to High Point, North Carolina in April for the 2018 Spring High Point Furniture Market

While there, we stocked up on design ideas and invested in new inventory that is sure to turn heads! We also selected a few one-of-a-kind antiques, including pieces from France and Germany.

These new items should be arriving to our showroom in late June.

Our takeaways from this season’s High Point Furniture Market adventure:

  • The addition of the Tomlinson line which specializes is high end contemporary upholstered furnishings.
  • The addition of new lighting sources, as well as the expansion of existing lighting collections.
  • Stickley has returned to their roots with Mission furniture, which we’re excited to see! The company has added many downsized Mission pieces for smaller spaces.
  • Our love affair with Vladimir Kagan continues. Obviously.

Getting the blues in the best way

One could accuse us of getting the summertime blues at High Point Furniture Market. But who could blame us?! There were a lot of blues featured at the spring show, and big, bold hues in the royal and cobalt families are huge this year. Greens of all shades and bright citron hues also made their mark in everything from paint colors and wallpaper to artwork and upholstery.

We look forward to showing you what we discovered at the spring High Point Market and are already eagerly anticipating the fall show in October!

Incorporating the 2018 Color of the Year Into Your Décor

Pantone recently announced that the 2018 Color of the Year is Ultra Violet.

This deep shade of purple can make a bold statement in any room, but many people fear it can be overpowering if used incorrectly. Our interior designer Lia Serapiglia has some suggestions to help you incorporate this color into your décor without overdoing it.

“Throw pillows, floral arrangements, and artwork are all ways to incorporate the 2018 Color of the Year without having to do a complete overhaul of your room,” said Lia. “Purple is a bold and regal color, so try pairing it with gold accents for a rich look.”

Other ways to integrate the Color of the Year into your interior décor include putting Ultra Violet candles or light fixtures on your end tables.

If you’re feeling bold and really want to make a statement, go big with your decoration choices. Paint an accent wall this shade of purple or add a deep purple rug to your room. These updates are great choices for a child’s bedroom or cozy den.

As Lia shares, going all out with new furniture is the ultimate way to embrace this color choice.

“For those who would like to be a bit more daring, a purple velvet tufted loveseat or sofa would be a dramatic statement piece,” said Lia. “Pair it with solid chairs in a neutral color to really make the purple pop.

“Hanging long drapes in this color is another great way to incorporate this color into your home.”

Summer and Fall Styles

Summer is in full swing and the team at Reid’s is excited to share all the trends that they learned about at the Spring 2017 High Point Furniture Market.

By mixing brass with other metals, you can buck the “everything has to match” trend and make your home feel more lived in and inviting.

New Look for Wood Furniture

Step away from the traditional brown color and liven up your home with grey, sand or beige colored wood furniture and fixtures that are now in our showroom.

Lots of Artwork

From paintings to furniture, art was everywhere at this year’s market. Many pieces currently in our showroom feature bright colors that have been mixed with greys and whites.

Charleston Forge

Sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, end tables…is there anything Charleston Forge can’t do well? We invested in some beautiful sets from this manufacturer that are already in our showroom.

Motion Sofas and Recliners

Furniture with electric controls was particularly popular at this season’s market. You’ll be able to lean back and relax with a number of stylish options that we’ll soon be adding to our showroom floor.

Gat Creek

We’ll be adding a variety of new furniture from Gat Creek soon, which is good news for anyone looking to capture classic American style.

Reid’s Fall 2016 Market Report

We’re well into the fall now, and the Reid’s team has returned from the 2016 High Point Fall Furniture Market with some exciting new trends to share with you.

Blues! (and Some Grays)

Gray was a big color story at the Spring 2016 market, and while it’s still a key player in fall color pallets, blues are starting to share the spotlight. We saw a variety of blue tones — ranging from soft dewy mist to saturated midnight navy — on leather, rugs, fabrics, artwork, lamps and more.

Mid-Century Modern

Mid-century modern style has been gaining popularity since the premiere of Mad Men in 2010. Furniture designers are responding with statement pieces inspired by the long, sleek lines and minimalist feel of popular styles from the 1930s to the 1960s, crafted in acrylic, hand-blown glass, marble, leather, and wood.

From paintings and tapestries to sculptures and prints, art was everywhere at Market — in large-scale formats with colorful pallets and energetic movement.

Funky Lamps

Even if you have a neutral or minimalist design aesthetic, you’ll love all the fun and funky lamps we saw at market. These light fixtures will add the perfect pop of color and sprinkle of whimsy to any space you put them in.

Carved, Wooden Accessories

There’s nothing more organic than wood, until you carve them into animal form. Several of these interesting pieces will be hitting our showroom floor soon.

Port Eliot

We’ve always has a special place in our hearts for Port Eliot’s gorgeous European furnishings and Mid-Century Modern flair. We invested in some stunning pieces that will arrive in the showroom soon.

CR Laine

Simplicity is beautiful, and no one does it better than CR Laine. We adored their showroom at Market, so visit the showroom soon to see all the beautiful pieces we brought back to share with you, like this Transitional Sofa and Heath Chair in Barnsley Dusk fabric.

Spring Market Report (2016)

The Reid’s team recently returned from the 2016 High Point Spring Furniture Market, the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world.

Over the course of a few days, we visited with representatives in about 30 different showrooms (there were thousands set up!) to seek out new trends, designs, furniture pieces and inspiration.

We can’t wait to go back again in the fall, but we wanted to share what we discovered with you.

Gray, Gray, Gray … and Even More Gray

From furniture to fabrics, the graying of the palette was apparent throughout Market this year.

No matter your price point or pigment preference, you can find furnishings and fabrics in countless shades of gray — from light, near-whites to deep gunmetal hues. We’ve been saying this for a while now, and the spring market confirmed it — gray is the new neutral.

Small Is Big

With many Americans downsizing and embracing the “tiny house” trend, furniture manufacturers are starting to think smaller.

Nearly every showroom we visited had one or more pieces that told a space efficiency story. And the aesthetics are streamlining, too, moving towards cleaner silhouettes with less ornate detailing.

One-of-a-Kind Finds

Some of our most exciting finds at Market were one-of-a-kind antique accessories. We feel that accessories tell the stories of a person’s life, and there’s a value to special, signature pieces you won’t find in anyone else’s décor.

As High Point Market eloquently put it, “if you can’t find it at High Point, it probably doesn’t exist.”

Transitional Vibes

Blending traditional and contemporary styles has been an emerging trend for some time, but transitional décor, as it’s called, is finally finding its way.

This combination style incorporates lines that are less ornate than traditional designs, but not as severely basic as contemporary lines. As a result, transitional furniture designs are classic, timeless and clean, yet still warm, welcoming and comfortable.

Acrylic Possibilities

Acrylic furniture, also known as Lucite furniture, has been around since the 1930s and enjoyed a heyday in the 1960s. Today, it’s often associated with the Hollywood Regency style, but as we learned at Market, acrylic furniture is finding its way into all kinds of décor.

Trending designers are now pairing this chic material with metals and natural woods. And thanks to its unique durability, acrylic is well-suited for a variety of furniture and accessory designs, including bed framing, tables, chairs, desks, light fixtures, and even drawer pulls. We brought home a stunning beverage cart made entirely of acrylic, which you can see in person in our Roanoke showroom, located in Grandin Village.
